A practical 30-day English study plan for beginners

Follow a small daily routine for greetings, everyday English, grammar, and speaking. Review your progress without promises of instant fluency.

Thirty days can help you build a regular English-learning habit. It is not a promise of fluency or a guaranteed CEFR level. Start with about ten minutes a day, and repeat a day when you need more practice.

Try it in daily life

Choose a realistic moment in your day: ten minutes after breakfast or after returning from work. On the first day, introduce yourself. On the next day, repeat the introduction and add one sentence about where you live. Record what you can say without reading.

A small daily routine

  1. Recall: spend two minutes remembering yesterday's phrases without looking.
  2. Learn: spend three minutes studying a few examples and their Amharic explanations.
  3. Use: spend three minutes saying or writing your own sentences.
  4. Check: spend two minutes correcting one mistake and noting tomorrow's task.

Days 1–7: Introduce yourself

  • Day 1: write or record a short introduction as your starting point.
  • Days 2–3: practise greetings, your name, and “How are you?”
  • Days 4–5: add where you live and what you do.
  • Day 6: practise the same conversation with someone else.
  • Day 7: introduce yourself again without reading; compare with day 1.

Days 8–14: Handle everyday situations

  • Days 8–9: ask for help and ask someone to repeat.
  • Days 10–11: practise ordering tea or coffee and asking a price.
  • Days 12–13: switch roles in a shop conversation.
  • Day 14: complete a short conversation using three phrases from memory.

Days 15–21: Describe your routine

  • Days 15–16: make sentences with “I work,” “I study,” and “I live.”
  • Days 17–18: describe another person's routine with he or she.
  • Days 19–20: practise do/does questions and negative sentences.
  • Day 21: write five true sentences and check the verb forms.

Days 22–30: Combine and review

  • Days 22–23: revisit mistakes from your notes.
  • Days 24–25: prepare a truthful work or study introduction.
  • Days 26–27: practise a follow-up question you did not memorise.
  • Days 28–29: repeat your hardest conversation, first with notes and then without.
  • Day 30: repeat day 1's task. Notice what is easier and choose your next week's focus.

Try it yourself

  1. Choose a regular time and a place for tomorrow's ten minutes.
  2. Name one task you can demonstrate on day 7.
  3. You miss day 4. What should you do next?

Check your answers

  1. Example: “After breakfast, at the kitchen table.” Choose a time you can keep.
  2. Example: “Introduce myself and ask for someone's name without reading.” Use a visible task, not “be fluent.”
  3. Continue with the unfinished task when you return. Review before adding more material.
